Jalo exercise

The Jalo exercise took place on April 16, 2008, at the Pyhäkoski hydropower plant near Oulu in northern Finland. The purpose of the exercise was to train the collaboration between Fortum's dispatch center for hydropower production in Finland, the local fire–rescue services, and Fortum's service personnel.

Collaboration exercises are a good way of clarifying roles, responsibilities and work procedures. Using various means of communication between different organizations is an important part. In the exercise, the VIRVE system was used. VIRVE is the Finnish national emergency management communication system.

Another part of the exercise was to test the practical use of new plant plans available both in the dispatch center and at the local fire–rescue services.

VSL staff documented the exercise and participated in the exercise review. The documentation will result in an exercise report.
