Exercise catalogue

VSL have supported a large number of crisis exercises—for example, management exercises, staff exercises, control room exercises, and alert drills. In the exercise catalogue, we have assembled information about some of those exercises.

Safe Harbor Exercise

The Safe Harbor exercise was conducted in the harbor of Rotterdam in the Netherlands. The exercise involved more than 800 persons acting in different roles in the response to an explosion at a chemical plant.

Vera Exercise

On December 14, 2005, the Vera Exercise was conducted by the power and heat production company Fortum in Stockholm, Sweden. VSL helped Fortum plan, conduct, and document the Vera exercise.

HSL Zuid

On June 22, 2005, we used The Good Example training model to support Dutch authorities and companies involved in the development of the new high-speed train connection.

Casalvolone Exercise

In May, 2005, we supported the final examination exercise of the European Master in Disaster Medicine.

Bonfire Exercise

The Bonfire exercise took place on April 6, 2005, in the Netherlands. VSL compiled data and visualized the outcome of the exercise in order to support the presentation of the lessons-learned.

Moa Exercise

October 6, 2004, a live simulation exercise took place in a control room in Sveg, Sweden, belonging to Fortum Generation AB. The purpose of the exercise was to train the personnel in the control room and to test procedures and organization.

Fort Rucker Exercise

In March, 2003, VSL monitored a Flight-medic training course at Ft.Rucker, Alabama. Part of the practical training was conducted in a simulated environment, using a helicopter mock-up.

Daniela Exercise

The purpose of the Daniela exercise was to train multi-agency response to a conflict between two political parties during a political meeting and a protest against that meeting.

Östergötland Helicopter Exercise

The helicopter exercise carried out in Östergötland 2001 was a joint effort with units from the Swedish Armed Forces Helicopter Flotilla. The goal with the exercise was to monitor and review a task that included Time Table Navigation with insertion and extraction of ranger teams.

Cornelia Exercise

The purpose of the Cornelia exercise was to train multi-agency response to a simulated train derailment in a tunnel in the Stockholm underground.

Karlshamn Exercise

The Karlshamn exercise took place in the costal town Karlshamn in the south of Sweden in September 2000. The scenario was a simulated peacekeeping operation in an ethnical conflict in the south of Sweden.

Orlando Exercise

On a fine May morning in Central Florida, a most unique emergency response exercise was staged. It involved Orange and Seminole County Fire Rescue Services and Sheriffs’ departments, the University of Central Florida Police Department and the Institute for Simulation and Training, part of the University of Central Florida.

Söderarm Exercise

Söderarm is a part of the Stockholm archipelago. It was the location for an exercise with an amphibious battalion in August 1999.

Alvesta Exercise

The Alvesta exercise took place in the town of Alvesta in the south of Sweden in October 1997. In this scenario the railway junction of Alvesta was attacked with chemical weapons in the form of VX fluid.

Piteå Exercise

In the morning of September 25, 1997, enemy aircraft attacked Piteå airbase. The air strike included both conventional weapons and chemical warfare agents. The rescue brigades from the towns of Piteå, Boden, Luleå and Älvsbyn were alerted and joined their forces in an effort to rescue the casualties from the attack.
